Magnet Board Continued . . .

Do you remember way back when, when I showed you my magnet board activities?  Well here's another one to add to the batch . . .

I started out by cutting up various shapes that I could assemble together to make a picture . . .

I then used the shapes to make different objects or scenes.  I took a picture of them with my camera and then printed them out to make these cards.

This is the fun part for the kids.  Using the picture cards to guide you, you can use the shapes to piece together the different objects.  All the pieces have magnetic tape on the back so they can go right up on our white board.

Pink Dinosaur Party

My daughter just turned four. She wanted a pink dinosaur party this year.
Here's the run down . . .

The Birthday Banner

Very simple project. It consisted of cutting out circles and letters (that I printed off my computer) and then assembling and stringing them together.

The Food Table

I made the "platter" that the grapes are on by hot gluing a plate on top of a cup. I stuck a golf ball inside the cup to weigh it down. I was going to make it tiered by placing another cup and plate on top of it, like I saw here, but decided one was enough.

The plates are egg shaped. I picked them up during the Easter clearance. I thought they'd make great pink dinosaur egg plates.

The Cupcakes

I used the same dinosaurs that I created for the invitations to make the cupcake toppers. All I had to do was print and cut them out. I liked the end result of the cupcake platter.

The Goody Bags

My daughter had fun helping me assemble the goody bags days before. She couldn't wait. I used gift sacks and filled them with a few small toys and treats. The boys got to take home a toy dinosaur, and the girls got to have a pink pony (since I figured my daughter was the only girl at the party who really likes dinosaurs). I then folded over the edge, punch it, and tied it with a ribbon.

The Games and Activities

T-Rex, T-Rex, Triceratops: My daughter came up with this one. I'm sure you've guessed it's the same as duck, duck, goose.

Dinosaur Says: This is your classic Simon Says game but with a dinosaur twist.

Hatching Dinosaur Eggs:  The kids each got a dinosaur egg (balloon) that they needed to sit on to hatch it.  Inside each balloon I placed a small dinosaur before blowing it up, so there was a surprise inside once their egg "hatched".

Craft: When the kids arrived they got to do a dinosaur craft. We had dinosaur pictures to color, stickers and stamps.

Pin the plate on the Stegosaurus:

T-Rex Relay: I found these dinosaurs among the stick horses at the dollar store. My daughter really wanted one and I thought they'd come in handy for her party, so we got two. The kids did a relay where they rode their dinosaur to the nest, snatched an egg (Robbin Eggs) in their spoon and then carried it back to the starting line where they got to eat it. Lots of fun!

The Happy Birthday Girl

Do you have any fun party ideas or games that were a huge success at your child's birthday party? I'd love to hear about them.

Pink Dino Party - The Invites

Well . . . my daughter's turning four (I can't believe it!) and has informed me that she would like a pink dinosaur party this year. A little unorthodox, I know . . . but she's the birthday girl.

I'm finding that I'm going to have to pull this thing together mostly from scratch. There aren't a whole lot of pink dino's out there. Not a popular choice among the girls . . . but that's OK.

I have to tell you that at first I was opposed to the whole dinosaur party theme but it's actually grown on me. I've discovered that dinosaurs can be fun . . . and cute. Yes cute. As I was hopelessly searching the internet for pink dinosaurs, I miraculously came across this. The cutest dinosaurs I've ever seen, and pink too! Thank you Holly!

Now that I had some inspiration I created these:

Cute for dinosaurs, right? I'm just thrilled with them.

I used some coordinating scrapbook paper, cut out and pieced everything together. I then scanned them onto my computer and printed them out to create invitations and cupcake toppers. The font I used is called "Action Is" that I down loaded from 1001freefonts.com.

Stay tuned for the rest of the birthday festivities to come . . .

Gifts Kids Can Make: Running T-shirt

My husband is a runner. Recently as I was folding the laundry I noticed that his running shirts were getting worn out. Luckily his birthday was coming up. Instead of giving him a plain ol' t-shirt I had the boys help me make a special one just for Dad.

I ran to Hobby Lobby and got a few different colors of fabric paint and an alphabet stencil. On the back I painted this (from Dr. Suess's One Fish, Two Fish):

And then for the fun part. Each boy got to pick his own color of paint, dip his foot in and put it on the shirt. The boys thought this was so much fun and couldn't wait to give it to their dad.

And my husband said it's the best present he's ever gotten . . .

Teacher Appreciation

My oldest son started school in the fall, which means this is my first Teacher Appreciation week as a parent.  I struggled to come up with something unique yet simple that my son and I could give to his teachers.

After making some homemade granola (adapted from this recipe) I decided that it was just too yummy not to share!  So after filling up a few quart-sized ziplocks I placed them in brown paper sacks (very school-ish, no?) and added a cute topper made of scrapbook paper. Ta-da!

I also had my son draw a picture for each of his teachers and added a small thank-you note.
It's not anything spectacular but it's definitely heart-felt.

A Little Kitchen Inspiration

I am so in love with little play kitchens. Here are a few homemade kitchens that have been pointed out to me in the last few months. So inspirational . . .

This kitchen was created from an old entertainment center over at Sutton Grace. How fun is that?

Vintage Songbird made this cute little kitchen out of an old night stand. Darling.

This sweet kitchen was made from scratch by Crafty Chic Mommy.  Endless fun!

Knock Off Wood provides the building plans for this fun kitchen.

Check out this simple little stove made from a box from good ol' Martha.

How can you not love these?  Isn't all this talent great?
Have you created a little kitchen of your own?  I'd love to see it.
